Accounts Payable Movies [Fraud in the Real World]
Thursday Jul 07, 2022
Thursday Jul 07, 2022
Most people don’t usually think that accounts payable would make an interesting movie. Luckily, Hollywood, Leonardo Di Caprio and Willie Garson, Matt Bomer didn’t agree. We’ve got three movies that were based on real-life episodes (of fraud) that we’d like to share with you. They are instructive in that they demonstrate how the frauds were committed and you can easily see how they could have been prevented. Embezzlement is key in only some of these. #accountspayable #movies #fraud
Real life frauds happen because certain best practices are not used. These movies demonstrate that the lack of appropriate best practices can and does lead to fraud. The movies and or documentaries cover real life frauds and show how real life people stole from the companies where they worked. The broadcast also discusses best practices that would have prevented these frauds from occurring.
The broadcast also reveals where listeners and viewers can find these movies and watch them themselves. One of them was only released towards the end of 2021. The others have been around for a while. Whenever Hollywood decides to make a movie or documentary around something that happened in accounts payable, you know you’ll have a great piece of entertainment. They are instructive in that they demonstrate how the frauds were committed and you can easily see how they could have been prevented.

Tuesday Jul 05, 2022
Zelle Scams, Zelle fraud, A new twist on Zelle fraud, these headlines seem to be everywhere. We’re here with this special update on the newest twist on current Zelle scams. Zelle accounts are becoming more popular and as they do, crooks looking to get their hands on your money are getting more innovative. In this episode we discuss the latest twist or innovation criminals are using to defraud ordinary citizens of their hard earned money. They are doing this using Zelle.
Zelle payments or payments made using the Zelle app are sometimes referred to as Instant Payments or Real Time payments. Although many sign up for Zelle through their bank, the bank does not have ultimate responsibility for these accounts. This has led to a lot of heartache and complaints when there was a fraud or scam perpetrated using a Zelle account.
Don’t let the Zelle dream turn into a Zelle nightmare, because you fell for one of the many Zelle scams. This handy payment app makes it easy to transfer money from person to person simply by using an app on your phone. But without the proper care and controls, the
app can become a nightmare. Recent stories in the press reveal how the app was used to scam college students and others out of thousands of dollars. Let’s take a look at some safety precautions every Zelle user should take to ensure they don’t get Zelle scammed. Stick around until the end when we share an often-overlooked Zelle safety precaution.

Tuesday Jun 28, 2022
Tuesday Jun 28, 2022
Fraud through the vendor file. Most business professionals never think the weak master vendor file practices can facilitate fraud and thus don’t prevent it. Whether you call it the vendor file, the supplier file, the master vendor file or the vendor master file, the outcome is the same. #Fraud facilitated by poor practices related to the #mastervendorfile happens more frequently than you might imagine. These weak practices sometimes also enable duplicate #payments.
The issue of Fraud in the Vendor File and How to Prevent It is one that is frequently overlooked and thus Vendor file fraud is allowed to flourish. Frauds in the Vendor File happen everywhere if you don’t know how to Prevent Them. Learning how to detect vendor
fraud is not difficult, especially with common vendor fraud schemes that are not overly sophisticated. Usually, fraud facilitated by weak master vendor file practices is a type of occupational fraud.

The master vendor file function is often not given the attention it deserves, making the vendor master file prone to the mal intentions of fraudsters. The supplier file is used for making payments. Ideally, the master vendor file and separation of duties are strong. Changes to the master vendor file should be verified to prevent accounts payable fraud. The techniques used to prevent vendor file fraud will also put a damper on duplicate payments.

The Three-Way Match is the foundation for the accounts payable function and sometimes the accounting function, as well. It involves matching quite a few issues such as price, quantity, etc.
Accounts payable and accounting best practices absolutely always include a three-way match. The accounts payable process, if it includes accounts payable best practices, also includes a three-way match. It is considered a strong #accountspayable internal controls
and all #accounting professionals recommend it. #threewaymatch
The three-way match concept is an old approach used in accounts payable departments across the country, or at least those that use accounts payable best practices. It involves comparing the purchase order vs invoice and the receiving document and is a strong accounts payable internal control.
